going into labour soon? read this

Hello
I have a few readers that are going to go through labour quite soon. So Mari and Cath and later Caroline this is for you. I was reading magical beginnings ,Enchanted lives by Deepak Chopra and this bit really stood out for me. I wish I had had the book before I went through labour.

Birthing your way
There is no right or wrong way to birth your baby. As you move into the rigor of contractions , relinquish your attachment to how things should be and simply allow what is unfolding to occur.Be in your body and listen to what it needs. Flow with your breath and slow down. Take one contraction at a time and stay connected with your baby.Feel your support system around you. Listen to your needs, trust your instincts , and release into the process. release your worries and release your fears. stay present and trust that your birthing experience is unfolding exactly as it should.

from "magical beginnings, enchanted lives" Deepak Chopra

Sounds so simple but it can be difficult to remember that and not panic at times. I feel that that passage is vital in making birthing a positive experience. For me my attachment to the birth I tought I was going to have got in the way of the one i was having.
Good luck ladies and remember to breathe
xxxxx

I think what you said about your attachment to the birth you thought you were going to have, getting in the way with the one you had, is very true and good advice wends. I am trying to keep an open mind, but it is difficult. I love Deepak Chopra and have also read that book. Those are beautiful words, but I must say I have changed my attitude somewhat... Firstly, he is a man, so what the @#%^ does he know about breathing your baby down and taking one contraction at a time? Secondly, he is the "wise one" who recommended conceiving your child, while gazing into your partner's eyes and chanting your favourite mantra aloud to each other. HAHAHA...In an ideal world maybe. Love ya Deepak, but keep to the spiritual stuff and leave the birthing of babies to us woman.

oops, somehow i posted my ranting comment twice - sorry!
ps: i am so excited to hear that Lily is crawling. Apparently I also took a long time to crawl, as everyone would carry me around all of the time!

Heehee Caroline you are pretty funny, although good point about it being from a man.
That is good advice though and those are beautiful words.
Thanks for posting it Wendy :)
I don't have an idea of how my birth is going to be, I am just hoping that I don't need a C Section and if I manage to avoid it, I will be happy. Anyway, that is not happening for a while - nothing happening on that score and apparently if the baby is not born by the 29th, they will induce me. Sigh... :)

Yes your thoughts and opinions do change as pregnancy progresses and after the birth. after the birth you feel a little embarrased that you told them to blow out that %$"$^&$ candle.or that you really thought that a candle and some lavender oil would help.
No chanting your mantra and gazing is not something that will help in conception I think hee hee. shame if Deepaks wife gave birth he would probably go all Kristian on her and stare wide eyed and tearful.
saying all that try to stay in the moment as much as possible it will help

having given birth some 30 years (almost) ago I suppose I don't have any right to comment on today's birthing methods. However, my advice is put your trust in your Gyne if you have one. Unfortunately you my darling had no ONE person to put your trust in and that made and makes me sad still. However, you do have the most wondeful baby to show for it and soon that memory will fade. Next baby will be born in SA if I have my way. Hope everyone who is having a baby soon and Caroline in August has a reasonably easy time of it. Holding thumbs for you all. Love Nana Fi xxxx
