Ina Paarman seasoned salt. the mainstay of my cooking. You must try the olive and rosemary one . Its amazing on sandwiches but I really like it in Mash. the lemon pepper is a new one that was picked up by fellow saffer (as we are called here) Jenny, in Putney in the south African shop.
I was overjoyed that the South African shop finally stocks the stuff. Now I don't have to lug it all back in my already bulging suitcase.
Then we have the melon preserve. Kristian , my future husband (yippeee), is mad for the stuff. he has it with the stinkiest blue cheese and hovis yum! but also, not light darling
I miss so much that I cant get here like those honey and mustard pretzels and ostrich steak.Nothing like proper chutney and Savannah. I love love love it ( but apparently cant spell it for the life of me) sometimes in Sainsburys if you are lucky they put out about 12 bottles at 2 quid a pop. then all the saffers , like me , rush for them and within minutes they are gone.
Why do these products taste different , why must we move heaven and earth to get them. I cant answer that but when I have a south African product on my shelf I just feel better about the world.

Oh yes, Ina's stuff is indeed the best. Can't be without it. Bella said I make the best lasagne she has ever tasted and all I use as a condiment is Ina's salt. Simple but delicious. Now Hovis is wonderful but very expensive so bring for me and I will give you two jars of waterlemoen konfyt. Yay, cannot wait for you all to be here. Mum xxxx
I agree, some things doesn't taste the same over here, but thank goodness for the SA shops. We go to the small Savanna shop at London Bridge to stock up. A bit expensive, but well worth it when you get your favourites. My mom used to send me my Mrs Balls chutney, lemon rooibos tea and my favourite sweets before I knew about the SA shops in London. I can now also get Mrs Balls and 'redbush' from Waitrose. My mom still sends me my sweeties though! Hugs, xx
